Free ESL Classes for Gateway Neighborhood Residents

PARTNER is offering free English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for residents of Perth Amboy’s Gateway Neighborhood. These classes are designed for adults who want to strengthen everyday communication, improve job readiness, and feel more confident navigating school, work, and daily life.

Part of Gateway Neighborhood Revitalization

ESL is one of the core ways PARTNER supports long-term opportunity in the Gateway Neighborhood. Alongside housing stabilization and community-based programs, adult education helps strengthen household stability and supports a more resilient neighborhood.

Spring ESL Cycle (10 Weeks)

• Start Date: April 10

• Time: Fridays, 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM

• Format: In-person instruction

• Includes: Placement testing + certificate of completion

• Cost: Free for eligible Gateway residents

• Space is limited. Registration is required.

Note: Dates may be adjusted based on enrollment and space availability.

What Happens on the First Night (April 10)

The cycle will begin with a multi-level workshop during the first 1.5 hours, followed by student placement tests. These assessments help determine class levels and guide instruction for the rest of the cycle.

Important Notes

• Friday, May 22 is not included due to the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

• June 19 is not included in observance of Juneteenth.

• Adjustments to the schedule, class days, or times can be accommodated if needed.

Who Can Join

These classes are intended for adult residents living in Perth Amboy’s Gateway Neighborhood. All English levels are welcome, including beginners.

This program is a good fit for:

Program Partners

This program is offered by PARTNER through a partnership with UCEDA Institute, an adult education provider that has supported English learners across New Jersey since 1988. UCEDA serves more than 5,000 students annually statewide.
