Artist bio/statement:

Gregory Bender is currently a Supply Chain adjunct instructor at Union County College, and a retired Department of Defense Senior Engineer for Transportation Logistics. He also was employed as an assistant Plant Engineer at the ASARCO Perth Amboy Plant. He graduated from Rutgers University with an Industrial Engineering degree and is also a professional Safety Engineer.

 

Greg has served as a three year member of the Perth Amboy Arts Council, including as it’s past president.  The Council is a volunteer advisory board to the City Council and Mayor. While on the Council, he helped develop, and was an advocate for, the City’s NJ award-winning Creative Placemaking Plan.  He also helped create the City’s Mural Ordinance and the Waterfront Arts festival. While on the Arts Council, Greg actively participated in the Arts Festival, exhibiting photos and paintings from Perth Amboy’s historic past, as well as custom furniture.

 

As a student of Perth Amboy’s Industrial heritage, Greg seeks to use various visual arts mediums to showcase Perth Amboy’s industrial roots is ways that are still visible today.

 

Greg has also served two terms on the Rutgers University Board of Trustees, where he was a member of the Executive, Academic and Student Affairs and Diversity Committees. During that time, he arranged and coordinated several visits for Perth Amboy High School art students to the Mason Gross School of the Arts Visual Arts BFA Thesis exhibits for private interactions with the artists.
