 r Gateway residents that intends to encourage pre-teen girls to develop se
 lf-respect and healthy lifestyles through dynamic\, interactive lessons an
 d running games\, culminating in a celebratory 5k run.\n\nOver a period of
  10 weeks\, 20 girls from the grades 3rd to 5th grade\, participate in an 
 after-school program under guidance of a facilitator using the GOTR guided
  curriculum encouraging positive\, emotional\, social\, mental\, and physi
 cal exercises.  Throughout the season\, the girls explore and discuss thei
 r own beliefs around experiences and challenges girls face at this age.  T
 hey also develop important strategies and skills to help them navigate lif
 e experiences. \n\nPhysical activity is woven into the GOTR program to ins
 pire an appreciation of fitness and to build habits that lead to a lifetim
 e of health.  \nAt the end of each three-month session\, the girls partici
 pate in a Girls on the Run 5K event on Sunday\, November 19\, 2017.  This 
 celebratory\, non-competitive event is the culminating experience of the c
 urriculum.  Completing the 5K gives the girls a tangible understanding of 
 the confidence that comes through accomplishment as well as a framework fo
 r setting and achieving life goals.  Crossing the finish line is a definin
 g moment when the girls realize that even the seemingly impossible IS poss
