Earth Day Volunteering

April 22, 2015 marks the 45th anniversary of Earth Day, a worldwide event founded to educate the public about global warming and inspire appreciation toward the environment. You can contribute to the global environmental movement by inspiring green initiatives in your community. Here are three simple ways to give back for Earth Day:

Tree planting—Forests and overall greenery are disappearing in order to make way for the concrete jungles we call cities. Trees are being cut down at an increasing rate, and with our dependence upon them to produce oxygen, it is alarming. Protect nature and preserve life by planting a tree for Earth Day.

Adopt-A-Highway—Help clean up roads and create safer surroundings for local animals with the Adopt-A-Highway program. Take initiative with your family or a community group to clean up a particular area. You’re contributing to a cleaner environment and safer roads.

Community gardening—A trending green initiative is community gardening where community members cultivate a patch of neighborhood land together. Everyone chips in with the cost, tools and gardening. Not only does it encourage neighborhood development, community gardens educate the public about organic gardening and why it’s environmentally friendly.
